Hermits

Cream together:
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening and butter
Add:
2 eggs
1 tsp soda in a little warm water
1/2 cup nuts
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup milk
4 cups flour
Sift together:
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp salt
Drop from spoon on greaseed pan. Bake in moderate oven.
